The BBA in Finance program is based on a unique curriculum that helps students develop a strong understanding of the finance concepts and business acumen, analytical and quantitative skills, as well as necessary communication skills. The program offers a variety of training courses and enrichment opportunities, with an aim to prepare our students to be a well-rounded finance professional. The Overseas Exchange program <span”>provides students’ with overseas experience and develops their cultural awareness. Students are eligible to participate in the program and study abroad for one semester. The School’s comprehensive exchange program is one of the largest school-level exchange programs in Asia. Every year close to 400 business undergraduates, that is over half of the School’s undergraduate population, spend a semester at renowned Business School overseas. To date, the School’s undergraduate programs have established over 120 partners in world-wide destinations.
Internships are available to students during summer and winter breaks, which allow them to gain practical experience in the business world.
The Reuter’s certificate (Financial Trading Lab) given to eligible students is a proof of knowledge acquired on the functionality of Reuters 3000 Xtra and is useful for students’ job hunting in the future. The Thomson Reuters Certification Program (FINA3820) will enable students to learn more about market information and the functionality of Reuters 3000 Xtra. Students will attend the Thomson Reuters Certification Assessment upon completion of the course.
Bloomberg Professional (Library) is now available to equip students with practical knowledge of the Bloomberg’s integrated financial platform. With support from the Department of Finance, the Department of Mathematics and the Finance Office, 6 Bloomberg Professional terminals are now available in the library G/F Information Commons. Students can have access to real-time and historical pricing, indicative data, reporting, research, estimates, analytics, portfolio management tools, electronic communications and trading capabilities, etc. They can also undergo tests available on Bloomberg Professional and attain certificates upon passing.
Morningstar Direct (Financial Trading Lab) is brought into the classroom to incorporate real-world training within the curriculum. Professors can use Morningstar Direct to design coursework that reflects the realities students will encounter as investment professionals. Students can also learn the products quickly by gaining experience with portfolio management. In the course Wealth Management (FINA3604), it covers the process of financial planning with a focus on the process of investment advisory by taking advantage of Morningstar Direct.
Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) is established and monitored by The Value Partners Center for Investing (VP Center) and it is a fund first ever in HK to offer students real world experience to practice fundamental investing. A course is tailor-made to equip the participating students with professional knowledge on portfolio analysis and experience in doing Industries’ and companies’ researches for stock recommendations.
Business Competitions provide students with chance to put their professional knowledge into practice while stimulating new thinking by offering a platform where students can interact with their peers and students from other universities. Every year the finance department nominates our students to participate in worldwide business competitions such as the CFA Institue Research Challenge and local business competitions like the SCMP/IFPHK Financial Planner Awards.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) nurtures an undergraduate research culture at HKSUY. It is designed to give undergraduate students an opportunity to work closely with world-class scholars and participate in a range of research, scholarly and creative activities.
